Since September 11th, 2001, urban geopolitics has emerged as a novel approach to cities as a key sites for terrorism and counter-terrorism. However, the Korean peninsula where territorial division and the Cold War order has still been dominant demonstrates the dissimilar geopolitical conditions from the West. As the Cold War geopolitics has naturalized the idea that the Cold War politics in the national scale pervades in the local scale, existing studies have neglected specific and complex features of the Cold War in the micro scale. Focusing on the conflicts over the leaflet distribution to North Korea in Paju of Gyeonggi Province, this research pays due attention to how the Cold War has materialized through the competitions of various discourses and practices around security. This will help us to examine not only limitations of Western urban geopolitics but also fresh theoretical possibility of urban geopolitics to better grasp the East Asian geopolitics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
